2026 press release

Wild Souls transition to Sustainable Model

IMG 0302

We wanted to inform our dedicated, loyal supporters that after a long , heartfelt decision Wild Souls will be closing the Blue Springs location. It is impossible for April to run two locations. With April being the only licensed Rehabber we can not risk our highest priority of quality care to our rehabilitation patients and she like any human is unable to be at two places at one time. The location of operation will continue in Lone Jack, Eastern Jackson County next to the Johnson County line. The following press release will be March 12, 2026 After discussing and planning with our team of 52 volunteers, we wanted you to hear it first from us.

Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue Announces Strategic Transition to Sustainable Model

Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue Announces Strategic Transition to Sustainable Model

Jackson County Missouri —

Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue & Rehab, a Federally and State licensed nonprofit dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and conservation, is announcing a strategic transition in operations as it moves into its next phase of sustainability and long-term impact.
“Wild Souls has always been about healing wildlife and the human spirit, and protecting that mission long term is my responsibility,” said Founder April Hoffman. “Over the past year, there have been significant personal and operational changes that require us to shift how we function in order to remain sustainable.”
At its current volume and overhead, the organization has recognized a misalignment between capacity and resources. To continue providing ethical, high-quality care, Wild Souls will be transitioning operations to a more sustainable model. This includes consolidating services to Hoffman’s property and narrowing the organization’s scope to ensure long-term viability.
“This is not a step back, but a necessary evolution to protect the future of Wild Souls,” Hoffman said. “What is not changing is our mission, our impact, or the importance of this work.”
This transition follows a year of profound loss of Founders husband and change for the organization. Hoffman’s husband, Doug Hoffman, played a critical role in supporting Wild Souls’ operations, including managing its Lone Jack location.
“Doug was a part of everything we built. Many in this community knew him or worked alongside him. His absence is deeply felt—not just personally, but operationally,” Hoffman said. “He carried a significant part of this mission, and continuing forward without him has required a level of adjustment I and the organization is still navigating.”
As part of honoring that legacy, Wild Souls is completing the Eagle Enclosure project Doug helped begin—an initiative that represents both continuity and commitment to the organization’s future.
Wild Souls also expressed deep appreciation for its partnership with the City of Blue Springs.
“The City leadership and Community support from Blue Springs has been exceptional,” Hoffman said. “This community has made this decision incredibly difficult. We are grateful for the trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to wildlife, and we hope this transition keeps the door open for future partnerships.”

Wild Souls partnered with Blue Springs Eagle Cam the first and only Live Eagle Cam in Missouri with the City of Blue Springs and Mo Department of Conservation you can view here https://m.youtube.com/live/kJylW8gFdTU

The organization also recognized its volunteers and supporters, who have contributed thousands of hours to wildlife care and public education.
“You are the heartbeat of Wild Souls. Every call answered, every animal saved, every life touched has been because of you,” Hoffman added.
Wild Souls will be entering the transitional move the next 60 days in certain operations as it restructures, with the intention of returning under a model that is both sustainable and aligned with its mission.
“Our mission has always been ‘Healing Wildlife and the Human Spirit.’ Right now, we are honoring both sides of that mission,” Hoffman said. “This is not goodbye. It is a transition—a necessary step to ensure Wild Souls continues for years to come.”
